President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration launched the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) to give low-income, vulnerable, and impoverished Nigerians more opportunities. This includes people who run profitable side businesses and have little need for money but are unable to get loans from established banks.

“The most vulnerable members of our society, such as widows, young people, people with disabilities, and internally displaced people, are among others to be given priority.”

Thirteen thousand of the fifty-nine thousand, one hundred and sixty-one possible recipients in the State’s thirty-four Local Government Areas (LGA) were confirmed and funded the loan’s initial installment.

The remaining potential beneficiaries will have another chance to register in 2024. More vulnerable people and groups are expected to proactively register at National Orientation Agency offices, where Desk Officers with GEEP training will be stationed in all 774 LGAs across the country.

The Minister stated, “These selected beneficiaries are now all banked, have been issued ATM cards, and are currently being enumerated, which reflects our purposeful efforts to improve financial inclusivity of our poor sustainably.”
